Da Nang cost of living in 2026: three real budgets, line by line

Cost of living. 17 min read. By DigiTao editorial.

Three monthly budgets: lean, comfortable and upgraded

Rent is the lever: the same city costs USD 750 or USD 2,000 a month depending on whether you sleep inland or by the sea.

Da Nang has one big cost, rent, and a long tail of small ones. Get the rent decision right and the rest of the budget almost writes itself. The three tiers below follow the bands Nomad Expenses published in December 2025 (lean USD 750 to 900, comfortable USD 1,000 to 1,300, upgraded USD 1,500 to 2,000). We filled each line with prices from Numbeo (updated 22 September 2026), HitchHive (February 2026) and the coworking price list further down. We convert at about 26,000 VND per USD; check the live rate in Currency Check before you commit.

Lean (USD 750 to 900). An inland studio in Hoa Cuong or Cam Le at USD 250 to 350, a rented scooter at USD 60 to 80, cafe wifi instead of a coworking desk, and mostly Vietnamese meals at Numbeo's 55,000 VND average. Electricity stays low if you ration the air conditioning. It is a workable budget, but it means rice and noodles most days and a flat a few kilometres from the beach.

Comfortable (USD 1,000 to 1,300). A modern one bedroom near My Khe at USD 400 to 550, a monthly coworking desk at 2 to 3 million VND, a scooter plus some Grab rides, a mix of local and Western food, a gym and a health line for insurance and the odd clinic visit. HitchHive sets its own comfortable tier a little higher, at USD 1,200 to 1,500.

Upgraded (USD 1,500 to 2,000). A two bedroom with an ocean view at USD 700 plus, a premium coworking desk, Western dinners most nights, private clinic visits and weekend trips to Hoi An and Hue. Nomad Expenses puts a comfortable couple sharing a one bedroom at USD 1,800 to 2,200, because rent is shared and food is not.

None of these tiers include the cost of leaving Vietnam every 90 days on an e-visa. We priced that separately in what a year of visa runs from Da Nang really costs; add it before you compare Da Nang with a country where you can stay put. For whether the city suits you beyond the money, read is Da Nang still worth it in 2026, and for the wider country picture, our Vietnam page.

Why Nomads.com, Numbeo and CityCost give different numbers

Each site measures a different person; use Numbeo for unit prices, Nomads.com for comparing cities and recent breakdowns for rent by neighbourhood.

Search "cost of living Da Nang" and three numbers come back. On 26 September 2026 Nomads.com showed USD 919 a month for a nomad, USD 995 for an expat, USD 623 for a local and a one bedroom studio in the centre at USD 522. Numbeo, updated 22 September 2026 from 561 entries by 77 contributors, gave a single person 11,755,287 VND a month before rent (about USD 450) and a one bedroom in the centre at 13,635,450 VND (about USD 525), roughly USD 975 together. CityCost, updated 20 September 2026, said EUR 753 a month with rent and EUR 374 without, with a one bedroom in the centre at EUR 464.

The totals sit closer than the headlines suggest. The differences come from three places:

  1. Different people. Nomads.com is fed by members who mostly rent furnished flats near the beach for a few months. Numbeo's contributors include residents who shop at markets, which pulls groceries and meals down. CityCost aggregates and converts to euros.
  2. Different baskets. A "without rent" figure on one site and an all in nomad budget on another are not the same shopping list. Coworking, insurance and flights out of the country are missing from most of them.
  3. Different ages. Nomads.com still lists Da Nang's average internet speed at 7 Mbps, a crowd average built from years of cafe tests, while VietnamSpot reports home fibre in an ordinary neighbourhood at around 400 Mbps (July 2026). Treat any single crowd line with the same caution.

What to trust for what: Numbeo for individual prices (a coffee, a kilo of chicken, a gym), because its entries are dated and its sample is the largest. Nomads.com for comparing cities on the same basket. Recent breakdowns such as HitchHive and Nomad Expenses for rent by neighbourhood, because no aggregator separates An Thuong from Cam Le. Then compare the result with other bases in Destination Comparison. Our Da Nang city page keeps the headline figures current between revisions of this guide.

Average rent in Da Nang by neighbourhood and lease length

Expect 8 to 14 million VND for a one bedroom in An Thuong, 6 to 10 million inland, and USD 50 to 100 a month off for signing six to twelve months.

Rent in Da Nang runs on two axes: distance from the sea and length of lease. The table pulls the 2026 bands together; the full neighbourhood walkthrough and the lease checklist live in where to live and how to rent in Da Nang.

By area. Da Nang Hotel Guide prices a private one bedroom in An Thuong, the walkable nomad grid now inside Ngu Hanh Son ward, at 8 to 14 million VND (USD 320 to 560), and gives Hoa Cuong and Cam Le, a few kilometres inland, the cheapest rents at 6 to 10 million VND. HitchHive gives USD 250 to 350 for an inland studio, USD 400 to 550 for a one bedroom near the beach and USD 700 plus for a two bedroom with an ocean view. Numbeo's averages (13.6 million VND in the centre, 8.8 million outside) sit inside those bands. Monarchy, a serviced apartment operator, lists studios at 10 to 14 million VND and two bedrooms at 14 to 22 million VND on monthly, 3, 6 or 12 month contracts. Da Nang Visa Run finds local one bedrooms on long leases at USD 170 to 400 and whole houses at USD 500 to 1,250.

By lease length. Da Nang Visa Run sets out the standard deal: contracts start at three months, one month's deposit is paid with the first month up front, and a six to twelve month lease is usually USD 50 to 100 a month cheaper than a three month one. Landlords also prefer your permission to stay to cover the lease, so a 90 day e-visa tends to mean a three month lease at the higher rate.

Before you sign. Beachfront towers often advertise in USD, local landlords in VND, so convert before comparing. "Near the beach" in a listing can mean a long walk, so walk it in the midday heat. Photograph every wall and appliance on day one and pay by bank transfer so the money trail exists. If you plan to stay six months or more, read the tax residency guide first: a lease of 183 days or more can make you a tax resident on its own.

Utilities: landlord electricity, water, fibre and SIM

Landlords often bill 3,500 to 4,000 VND per kWh against an EVN tariff of 1,984 to 3,460 before VAT, water is about USD 4, and fibre starts around 195,000 VND.

Utilities are cheap in Da Nang, with one exception that surprises newcomers: the electricity rate on your lease is often not the state rate.

Electricity. The residential tariff of the state utility EVN runs in six tiers from 1,984 to 3,460 VND per kWh before VAT under Decision 1279/QD-BCT of 9 May 2025, with VAT at 8 percent on top. Many landlords renting to foreigners bill a flat 3,500 to 4,000 VND per kWh instead, and HitchHive puts the resulting bill at 800,000 to 1,500,000 VND (USD 32 to 60) a month depending on air conditioning. An air conditioned month of 350 kWh at the landlord rate comes to about 1.2 to 1.4 million VND. We lay out the full tier ladder, a model bill and the questions to ask before you sign in your Da Nang electricity bill explained.

Water. Usually a flat fee of about USD 4 a month, per Da Nang Visa Run, and sometimes included in the rent.

Home fibre. This is the bargain. VietnamSpot (updated 16 July 2026) lists Viettel from 195,000 VND a month for up to 500 Mbps, FPT from 220,000 VND for up to 1 Gbps and VNPT from 190,000 VND for 100 to 300 Mbps, with installation at about 300,000 VND and a technician within one to three days; you need your passport and rental contract. Plan on 195,000 to 255,000 VND a month for a 300 Mbps line, and Numbeo's broadband average is 211,333 VND. Many furnished flats already include a line, so ask what the building has before you rely on it for calls.

SIM. Da Nang Hotel Guide gives about 10 GB for USD 4 to 5 a month, and Numbeo's mobile plan average is 159,238 VND. New SIMs now need facial biometric registration; the setting up guide walks through it.

Get it in writing. Ask for the electricity rate per kWh, what water and internet cost, and what else is billed on top, then photograph the meter on move in day. Those unwritten extras are where "USD 400 all in" becomes USD 470.

Food and coffee: local, mid-range and Western

A local meal is about 55,000 VND, a mid-range dinner for two 500,000 VND and a cappuccino 46,000 VND; eating Vietnamese three times a day costs about USD 190 a month.

Food is where a lean budget and an upgraded one part ways most visibly, because the same street offers a cheap bowl of mi quang and a restaurant dinner at ten times the price.

Local. Numbeo's September 2026 average for an inexpensive restaurant meal is 55,000 VND (about USD 2.10), and Nomad Expenses prices a street meal at USD 1.50 to 3. Three local meals a day for a month is about 4.95 million VND, roughly USD 190, which is why the lean budget's food line sits at USD 230 to 260, with cafe coffee counted in the coworking line.

Mid-range and Western. Numbeo puts a three course meal for two at a mid-range restaurant at 500,000 VND (about USD 19). Western menus in An Thuong cost several times a local meal; the comfortable tier's USD 300 to 350 food line assumes one Western meal a day and two local ones. Eat Western three times a day and you reach the upgraded tier's USD 400 to 650 without trying.

Groceries. Numbeo's averages: milk 40,333 VND a litre, a dozen eggs 38,680 VND, chicken fillets 109,111 VND a kilo, rice 26,857 VND a kilo, a 1.5 litre bottle of water 13,300 VND. Imported cheese, wine and cereal are where a Western basket breaks the budget.

Coffee. A cappuccino averages 46,111 VND on Numbeo. Two Packs and a Pup, who reviewed cafes as workspaces, list black coffee from 25,000 VND at Cafe Dalky and 125,000 VND at XLIII Specialty Coffee. Two cafe coffees a day is 60,000 to 90,000 VND, so USD 70 to 100 a month; if you work from cafes instead of paying for coworking, count that line as your desk.

Drinks. A half litre of domestic draft beer in a restaurant is 35,000 VND on Numbeo.

Where visitors overpay. Sunbed vendors on My Khe charge 200,000 to 400,000 VND a person with no posted price, per Before You Go Travels; bring a towel. Unposted prices are where overcharging happens; posted ones are the same for everyone.

Coworking and cafes: monthly desks, day passes and 24/7 options

Monthly desks run 1.8 to 4.5 million VND, day passes 79,000 to 260,000 VND, and Seaview and Coworking Da Nang give members 24/7 access for European and US hours.

Most Da Nang coworking spaces charge 1.8 to 4.5 million VND a month (about USD 70 to 175). The table draws on The Digital Nomad Asia, Digital Nomad Guides (11 March 2026) and Things Nomads Do; confirm rates with each space, because promotions change.

Which one. If you work European or US hours, the 24/7 options matter more than the price: Seaview Coworking on Ha Chuong in Son Tra at 2 million VND a month, and Coworking Da Nang on Tran Van Thanh, open around the clock to members at 3 million VND. ACE Coworking on Tran Van Du is the An Thuong default at 3 million VND, open 7 AM to 2 AM Monday to Saturday. HIVE on An Thuong 5 is the premium room at 4 to 4.5 million VND. Circo in Hai Chau at 1.8 million VND is the value pick if you live on the city side of the river. Enouvo Space sells hot desks from 1.2 million VND and dedicated desks up to 2.5 million VND. If you only need a desk two days a week, day passes from 79,000 VND at Nomads Coworking beat any membership.

Cafes as offices. An Thuong packs laptop friendly cafes into a few hundred metres, and the catch is upload speed. Two Packs and a Pup measured Z! Coffee and Roastery at 173 Mbps down and 9 up, Dng.coffee at 152 down and 53 up, Cafe Dalky at 138 down and 1 up, GOLO at 85 down and 2 up, The Hideout at 21 down and 2 up, and Maia Beach Bar at 5 down and 4 up. A 1 Mbps upload freezes a video call however fast the download looks, so test upload before a client meeting.

Time zones. Da Nang is UTC plus 7 with no daylight saving. A 9 AM London start is 4 PM in Da Nang in the northern winter and 3 PM in summer; a 9 AM New York start is 9 PM or 8 PM. That is why the 24/7 spaces exist. The coworking answer and the Da Nang city page keep the list of spaces current.

Getting around: scooter rental, fuel and a monthly Grab budget

A rented scooter is USD 60 to 80 a month, petrol about 22,700 VND a litre, and a Grab habit costs residents about USD 32 to 60 a month.

An Thuong is walkable and most of the rest of the city is not. Almost every resident ends up with a scooter or a Grab habit, and both are cheap by Western standards.

Scooter rental. HitchHive puts monthly motorbike rental at USD 60 to 80. Petrol is 22,668 VND a litre on Numbeo, so fuel for city riding is a fraction of the rental, and the lean budget's transport line of USD 70 to 90 covers bike, fuel and parking. Wear a fastened helmet: riding without one, or with the strap undone, is a 400,000 to 600,000 VND fine under Decree 168/2024.

The licence question. This is the expensive part rental shops skip. Vietnam recognises only the 1968 Vienna Convention International Driving Permit carried with your home licence; permits from the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea are 1949 Geneva documents and are not valid, per ETHOS. Riding without a valid licence costs 2 to 4 million VND on a bike up to 125 cc and 6 to 8 million VND above that under Decree 168/2024 as amended by Decree 238/2026 from 15 August 2026 (Motorbike Da Nang), and a crash without a valid licence can void a travel insurance claim. The setting up guide covers licence conversion.

Grab and Xanh SM. Day Trips Vietnam (5 September 2026) gives a mid 2026 baseline of 12,000 to 14,000 VND plus 4,000 to 5,500 VND a km for GrabBike and 27,000 to 32,000 VND plus 9,000 to 12,000 VND a km for GrabCar, noting that provincial cities often quote lower. HitchHive puts a cross city ride at USD 1.20 to 2.40, and Da Nang Hotel Guide gives a resident's monthly ride budget of USD 32 to 60, about the cost of a rented scooter without the licence risk. Some travellers report a 4 percent fee on rides paid with a foreign card, though others trace it to their bank; paying cash or from a local account avoids it.

Taxis and the airport. Metered taxis start at 27,500 VND plus 16,500 VND a km on Numbeo. Book your ride in the app before you walk out of arrivals: Before You Go Travels documents fake Grab drivers at the airport charging three to five times the app rate.

Public transport. City buses exist and Numbeo lists a monthly pass at 130,000 VND, but the routes rarely match where foreigners live and work.

Healthcare, gym and insurance lines

A private consultation costs about USD 24 to 32 at Hoan My, USD 47 at Vinmec and USD 86 to 110 at Family Medical Practice, and a gym about 583,000 VND a month.

Da Nang's private healthcare handles consultations and everyday injuries well. Budget for routine visits and insure for the serious case.

Clinics and hospitals. Based Da Nang prices a consultation at Family Medical Practice, the English first clinic, at USD 86 to 110, at Vinmec Da Nang at about USD 47 and at Hoan My at about USD 24 to 32, with less English at Hoan My. Vinmec, JCI accredited and open 24 hours at 30 Thang 4 street in Hai Chau, offers services in English, Japanese, Korean, Russian and French per Medical Tourism Co. The Vietnam wide benchmark from Vietnam Visa Online is USD 50 to 100 for a GP and USD 100 to 200 for a specialist at international clinics. The ambulance number is 115. Based Da Nang prices a dengue NS1 test at USD 8 to 22 and a hospital night at USD 30 to 150.

Insurance. No visa category requires it, but it decides whether you pay first and claim later: many international hospitals bill major insurers directly. Get a quote that covers Vietnam inpatient care and medical evacuation, and check whether it excludes motorbike accidents without a valid licence, because many policies do. The comfortable budget's USD 60 to 90 health line assumes an insurance premium plus a clinic visit every couple of months; the lean budget's USD 30 to 40 assumes a cheap plan and pharmacy self care.

Gym. Numbeo's average monthly fitness membership is 583,333 VND (about USD 22), and HitchHive gives USD 15 to 30. Running the My Khe promenade and the Son Tra climbs are free.

Weather costs. October and November bring heavy rain and storm risk; the budget items are a dry bag, repellent and a cash reserve for power cuts. See a week in Da Nang in November for what the season means in practice, and check the months in Seasonal Check.

Family budgets, school fees, and Da Nang vs Saigon, Hanoi, Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Lisbon

Nomads.com puts a Da Nang family at USD 2,179 a month before school fees, and a nomad month is cheaper in Da Nang than in Saigon, Hanoi, Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Lisbon.

Families. Nomads.com's family estimate for Da Nang is USD 2,179 a month, against USD 2,313 in Ho Chi Minh City and USD 1,849 in Hanoi. Housing is part of the difference: a whole house runs USD 500 to 1,250 a month per Da Nang Visa Run. The line that dwarfs everything is school. Vietnam Teaching Jobs (16 December 2025) puts Da Nang's international schools at VND 215 to 265 million a year (USD 8,200 to 10,000) against VND 531.6 to 959 million in Ho Chi Minh City, with classes of 12 to 18 and fewer IB Diploma options. That is roughly USD 680 to 830 a month per child before application, enrolment and transport fees. The international schools answer splits primary and secondary fees.

Is Da Nang expensive? Not by regional standards. On Nomads.com in September 2026, a nomad month costs USD 919 in Da Nang, USD 1,377 in Ho Chi Minh City and USD 1,284 in Hanoi. Vietnam Visa Online frames the gap more modestly: Da Nang USD 900 to 1,100, Saigon USD 1,200 to 1,400, Hanoi about USD 1,068. Da Nang also has the beach and an annual average air quality of 36 US AQI on Nomads.com, against 95 in Hanoi, and loses on hospitals, job market and choice of schools. The Saigon comparison answer goes deeper.

Da Nang vs Bangkok. Bangkok shows USD 1,656 a month for a nomad and USD 700 for a central studio on Nomads.com, about 80 percent more than Da Nang, and Numbeo (22 September 2026) puts a Bangkok one bedroom in the centre at about 22,800 THB. Bangkok buys a bigger city, faster average internet (32 Mbps on Nomads.com) and more flights; see our Thailand page for the visa side.

Da Nang vs Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai costs USD 1,433 a month for a nomad and USD 468 for a central one bedroom on Nomads.com, so its nomad basket is about 55 percent dearer than Da Nang's, with the February to April smoke season as the non financial cost. Thailand's five year DTV visa is the argument on the other side.

Da Nang vs Lisbon. Lisbon shows USD 4,936 a month for a nomad and USD 1,627 for a central studio on Nomads.com, and Numbeo (24 September 2026) puts a Lisbon one bedroom in the centre at EUR 1,419 with a single person spending EUR 761 before rent. A comfortable Da Nang month costs less than a Lisbon rent cheque. What Lisbon buys is EU residence and short flights to European clients; see Lisbon.
