Da Nang in November: rain, typhoons, floods and what to plan

Da Nang in November is warm, very wet and still inside the central Vietnam typhoon season: expect roughly 380 to 500 mm of rain over 15 to 20 rainy days, highs of 25 to 28 C, rough seas and a real chance of a storm alert, with conditions usually easing in the second half of the month. It is a workable month for remote work and a poor month for the beach.

What is the weather like in Da Nang in November?

November is one of the two wettest months of the year in Da Nang, second only to October. The published averages differ by source, so read them as a band rather than a single number.

For comparison, the same monthly averages put October at about 620 mm over some 21 rain days and December at about 125 mm. The weather guides agree on one pattern that matters for planning: early November can still be very wet, and the rain usually starts to ease later in the month. If you can choose your dates, the second half is the safer bet.

Is November still typhoon season in Da Nang?

Yes. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism describes the central Vietnam typhoon season as running from July to December, with its peak between mid September and mid November. It gives an average of one to two storms affecting the region in November, against two to three in October, and rates flight disruption risk in November as moderate to high.

November 2025 showed what that looks like. On 5 November 2025 the US Embassy and Consulate General in Vietnam issued a weather alert for Typhoon Kalmaegi, expected to make landfall overnight on 6 November and the morning of 7 November, in central provinces including Da Nang. The alert noted that the storm would hit areas already affected by heavy rain and flooding.

The official forecasts come from the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting at nchmf.gov.vn. The tourism authority says the 72 hour typhoon track for central Vietnam is generally accurate to within 100 to 150 km, while five day forecasts are much less reliable. In practice, take the three day warning seriously and treat anything further out as a signal to stay flexible.

Does Da Nang flood in November?

It can, and 2025 was a severe year. The 2025 central Vietnam floods ran from 16 October to 6 December 2025 and left at least 219 people dead or missing, with total damage estimated at USD 1.61 billion. Da Nang's share of the damage was about USD 33.2 million, and Hue's about USD 129.7 million.

Inside Da Nang, VietNamNet reported that heavy rain from 26 to 29 October 2025 put several communes and wards under 1 to 2.5 metres of water. Schools closed, roads became impassable, more than 36,000 officers and soldiers were mobilised, and the city evacuated 15,886 people from deep flood zones and landslide prone areas. On 3 November 2025, rivers in Da Nang rose again and flooded low lying neighbourhoods.

Two lessons follow. Flood risk is local, and the floor matters. Before you book a month long rental, ask the landlord directly whether the building or the street flooded in October or November 2025, and prefer a unit above the ground floor.

Can you swim at My Khe beach in November?

Usually not. According to Kalakala Beach Club, a beach business on the Da Nang coast, the city places red flags on My Khe during the rainy months to warn of dangerous rip currents and high waves, and swimming is prohibited while they fly. It reports waves of 2 to 3 metres on stormy days and lists October and November as the wettest months of the year. Breeze Vietnam adds that the winter monsoon brings bigger waves and stronger rip currents than in summer.

A red flag means no swimming, full stop.

Is Da Nang in November good for remote work?

Yes, if you plan for power and connectivity cuts. Storms knock out the grid in parts of central Vietnam: the tourism authority cites Hoi An losing grid power for more than 60 hours during Typhoon Trami. A home connection is only as good as the building's electricity.

What should you plan for a week in Da Nang in November?

A November week goes smoothly when you prepare for the one or two days the weather takes away. This checklist follows the official and published guidance cited on this page.

1. Arrive after mid November if your dates are flexible, since rain usually eases later in the month.

4. Leave a buffer day before any onward flight.
5. Check nchmf.gov.vn and your embassy's alerts once a storm appears, and plan around the 72 hour track.

7. Pack a rain poncho and quick drying sandals rather than relying on an umbrella in wind driven rain.
8. Ask your landlord which streets and floors flooded in 2025 before you sign a lease.
9. Stay out of the sea when red flags are up on My Khe.

When does the rainy season in Da Nang end?

The rainy season winds down in December and the dry season follows. December averages about 125 mm of rain, and the driest stretch runs from February to May, with March the driest month at about 22 mm according to the same monthly averages. If you want beach days rather than a quiet working month, spring is the season to aim for.
