Da Nang for digital nomads: is it still worth it in 2026?

Yes, Da Nang is still a good base for a digital nomad in 2026, for stays of up to 90 days at a time, on a budget of roughly USD 900 to 1,300 a month, as long as you avoid October and November and accept that Vietnam has no digital nomad visa. Is Da Nang good for digital nomads?

Da Nang is good for digital nomads on cost, internet and coworking, and weaker on visa length and autumn weather. The city is growing fast. Its accommodation providers served more than 17.3 million visitors in 2025, up 15 percent on the year, and the city's GRDP grew an estimated 9.18 percent, according to the city tourism portal (source). On 1 July 2025 Da Nang absorbed Quang Nam province, Hoi An included, and now counts about 3.86 million people over 11,860 square kilometres (source).

On the nomad side, Nomads.com rated Da Nang 3.89 out of 5 from 1,195 reviews and ranked it 47th worldwide when we checked on 26 September 2026 (source). The work basics are solid. Home fibre from Viettel, FPT or VNPT starts around 195,000 VND a month (about USD 7.50), and a technician usually arrives within one to three days, per a 2026 provider comparison (source). Vinmec Da Nang is a JCI accredited private hospital open 24 hours (source). ExpatDen, in June 2026, quoted a Numbeo safety index of 76.24 for Da Nang, against 65.72 for Hanoi and 61.37 for Bangkok (source).

How much does a digital nomad spend in Da Nang?

Where should a digital nomad stay in Da Nang?

Most digital nomads stay near My Khe beach in An Thuong, and pay less by living a few kilometres inland. Since the July 2025 reform, the My An and Khue My wards around An Thuong belong to the new Ngu Hanh Son ward, so addresses on older listings may not match what your landlord writes (source).

A 2026 local guide puts a one bedroom in An Thuong at 8 to 18 million VND a month (USD 320 to 720), against 6 to 10 million in Hoa Cuong and Cam Le (source). CityCost has a one bedroom at EUR 465 in the centre and EUR 301 outside it (source).

Your coworking choice can decide the neighbourhood. A directory updated on 21 November 2025 lists these monthly prices (source):

1. Circo, Hai Chau: 1.8 million VND, Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 6 pm.
2. Seaview Coworking, Son Tra: 2 million VND, the only one of the three with 24/7 access.
3. HIVE, An Thuong: 4 to 4.5 million VND, daily from 7:30 am to midnight.

Is there a digital nomad community in Da Nang?

There is a digital nomad community in Da Nang, but it is smaller and looser than in Chiang Mai or Bali. The Nomadic Notes newsletter wrote in May 2025 that "Da Nang has overtaken Chiang Mai and Canggu to become the digital nomad capital of Southeast Asia", based on its author's own visits rather than a survey (source). A 2026 local guide is more cautious: it describes a resident expat scene of mostly retirees and English teachers, with a smaller number of remote workers, and says meeting other nomads takes effort (source). In practice, coworking spaces such as HIVE in An Thuong are where most introductions happen.

How long can a digital nomad stay in Da Nang?

A digital nomad can stay 90 days per entry on an e-visa, or 45 days visa free with certain passports, and neither can be extended inside Vietnam. The current options:

1. The e-visa: open to every nationality since 15 August 2023, valid for a 90 day stay (source). The official portal charges USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry, processed in 3 working days (source).
2. The 45 day exemption under Resolution 44/NQ-CP: citizens of Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, from 15 March 2025 to 14 March 2028 (source).
3. Nothing longer for remote workers. Vietnam has no digital nomad visa, and the UD1 category in force since 1 July 2026 needs an institutional sponsor, so freelancers and remote employees of foreign companies cannot use it (source).

When is Da Nang not worth it?

Da Nang is not worth it from October to December if you want beach days and reliable power. October averages about 620 mm of rain over 21 wet days and November about 380 mm, against 22 mm in March, according to a monthly weather guide (source). The city places red flags on My Khe from September to December for rip currents and high waves, and swimming is off on those days (source).

The 2025 season showed the downside. Floods across central Vietnam from 16 October to 6 December 2025 left at least 219 people dead or missing and caused USD 1.61 billion in damage, USD 33.2 million of it in Da Nang (source). Vietnam Tourism advises keeping about 3 million VND in cash during typhoon season, because ATMs go offline in long power cuts (source). Is Da Nang still worth it in 2026?

Da Nang is still worth it in 2026 for a three to six month stay split across e-visas, arriving between February and August. It gives a nomad fibre at under USD 10 a month, coworking from 1.8 million VND, a JCI accredited hospital and a total budget near USD 900. It asks you to leave the country every 90 days, to check the flood risk of any flat before you sign, and to build your own social circle.

If you need a residence permit, Vietnam cannot give you one as a remote worker today. If you need a cheap, well connected city by the sea for a season, Da Nang still delivers.
