Is Da Nang cheaper than Saigon?

Da Nang wins on price at every budget level, but the size of the gap depends on how you live. The cheaper the lifestyle, the bigger Saigon's premium, because the difference is concentrated in one line: a modern apartment within reach of where you work.

Rent is the main line: a modern one bedroom near My Khe Beach is USD 400 to 550 in 2026, and an inland studio USD 250 to 350. Saigon's equivalent in District 1, 2 or 7 costs considerably more, which explains most of the USD 458 nomad gap. Food and coffee are close to identical: a local meal is 60,000 VND, a cappuccino 46,000 VND in Da Nang, and Saigon street prices sit in the same band, though Western restaurants are more plentiful in Saigon and priced a little higher. Coworking desks run USD 70 to 150 in both cities: Saigon has the deeper pool (Dreamplex, The Hive, Toong), Da Nang has more spaces per nomad and the 24/7 options. Transport runs on Grab and scooters at the same national fares, and Da Nang is small enough that a monthly Grab budget of 800,000 to 1,500,000 VND covers most people.

The one line where the gap is huge is schools. Vietnam Teaching Jobs prices Da Nang international schools at VND 215 to 265 million a year (USD 8,200 to 10,192) against VND 531.6 to 959 million (USD 20,477 to 36,943) in Ho Chi Minh City for 2025 to 2026, 60 to 70 percent lower with classes of 12 to 18 against 20 to 25.

What Saigon buys with the extra money

A much larger job and client market, the country's best hospitals, direct long haul flights, more coworking and more nightlife. Da Nang buys a beach, an annual air quality average of 36 US AQI, a ten minute commute and a quieter life, with the trade offs of a monsoon from October to December and hospital transfers for serious cases.

One caveat

Da Nang's beach rents have been rising faster than Saigon's for three years while everything else stayed flat, so the gap is narrowing at the top end.
