What version of life this buys
In Da Nang, the choice is between a central address and a margin. Numbeo's centre rent, about USD 525, is in the range our Da Nang guide gives for a one bedroom near the beach, and at that rent the budget is almost entirely spent; outside the centre it leaves about 5.4 million dong a month, roughly USD 210. Two other sources draw the same line: Nomads.com puts a nomad month in Da Nang at USD 919, and Nomad Expenses calls USD 750 to 900 lean and USD 1,000 to 1,300 comfortable. So USD 1,000 sits at the door of comfortable, not inside it.

How to make it work
Rent away from the seafront, eat Vietnamese food (Numbeo lists an inexpensive meal at 60,000 dong in Da Nang) and work from home or cafes. How much rent costs near the beach in Da Nang shows what the sea view adds.
