What is Da Nang like in the rainy season from October to December?

The monsoon in Da Nang is a season of weeks, not of months. A normal week in October or November is a few hours of heavy rain a day, often overnight or in the afternoon, with dry windows in between. A storm week is different: two or three days indoors, flooded side streets, and a power cut long enough to matter.

The numbers, month by month

These are the long term monthly means for the Da Nang meteorological station in the Vietnamese building climate regulation QCVN 02:2022/BXD; a single season can run wetter or drier. Rain usually eases in the second half of November, and by mid December the city feels like a cool, damp spring.

What a normal week looks like

Mornings are often dry enough for a beach walk, though red flags fly on My Khe from September through December, when waves reach 2 to 3 metres and swimming is prohibited on flag days. Cafes and coworking stay full, and the internet is unaffected by rain. Pack a proper rain jacket, a waterproof scooter cover and shoes that dry, and expect prices to soften: some landlords negotiate on three month leases that start in October.

What a storm week looks like

The typhoon season runs July to December with a peak from mid September to mid November, and October averages two to three storms affecting central Vietnam. When one is forecast, the official service nchmf.gov.vn issues alerts a couple of days ahead, and flights can be delayed 12 to 24 hours at peak storm alerts. Stock water, charge everything, keep about 3 million VND in cash (ATMs go offline in long power cuts) and move the scooter off the ground floor. In the worst case, rain from 26 to 29 October 2025 put low lying and riverside wards under 1 to 2.5 metres of water and closed schools for days.
