Where should I live in Da Nang: An Thuong, My Khe or Son Tra?

All three areas are on the same side of the Han River, within a ten minute scooter ride of each other, so you are choosing a daily rhythm rather than a different city. One thing changed on paper in 2025: when Da Nang merged with Quang Nam on 1 July 2025, the old wards were regrouped. My An, Khue My, Hoa Hai and Hoa Quy became Ngu Hanh Son ward (this is where An Thuong is), while Tho Quang, Nai Hien Dong and Man Thai became Son Tra ward. Older listings still use the former names.

An Thuong: the walkable nomad strip

A grid of a dozen streets between the beach road and Ngu Hanh Son road. More than 30 laptop friendly cafes within 500 metres, HIVE and Nomads coworking on the doorstep, Western food, English spoken in most shops. The trade offs are noise (bars run late), tourist prices and the highest rent per square metre. A one bedroom runs 8 to 18 million VND (USD 320 to 720). Best for a first month and for anyone who does not want a scooter.

My Khe beachfront: towers and hotels

The strip along Vo Nguyen Giap road is hotels, serviced apartments and residential towers with lifts, gyms and pools. A modern one bedroom is USD 400 to 550; two bedrooms with an ocean view start around USD 700. Quieter at street level than An Thuong but you will ride to most cafes. Enouvo Space coworking is nearby. Red flags fly on the beach from September to December, so the sea view is prettier than it is swimmable in the monsoon.

Son Tra: space, calm and the peninsula

North of My Khe, around the An Hai and Man Thai neighbourhoods, streets are residential, rents drop and houses appear. Seaview Coworking (24/7, 2 million VND a month) is here at 32 Ha Chuong. Families like the quieter roads; the downside is fewer English speaking services and a longer ride to An Thuong's evening scene.

If none of these fit

Hai Chau, the city centre on the west bank, is 25 to 40 percent cheaper for the same flat and about 3 km from the beach. Before signing anywhere, ask how high the water rose in late October 2025: low lying and riverside streets flooded 1 to 2.5 metres.
