Is Koh Tao more expensive than Koh Phangan?

The gap people expect between the two small Gulf islands is barely there. The gap that matters is between any island and the mainland.

Why an island costs more than Bangkok

Everything arrives by boat. Wonderland Koh Tao counts four real supermarkets on a 21 km2 island, not counting 7-Elevens, against Koh Phangan's roughly 167 km2 and far more shops. Rents peak from 1 December to 31 January and 1 July to 31 August, most people rent a scooter to get around, and fuel runs about 40 to 50 THB a litre. For backpackers, Wonderland Koh Tao puts a day at about 1,000 to 1,500 THB on Koh Tao against 800 to 1,200 THB on Koh Phangan, with Phangan prices jumping around the Full Moon Party.

Where Koh Phangan is cheaper

Desks. The Digital Nomad Asia lists Koh Phangan coworking months from 2,000 THB at H24 in Thong Sala to 5,900 THB at Inner Space in Sri Thanu. Koh Tao has two spaces: Blacktip at 3,500 THB a month and TaoHub at about 5,000 THB. Koh Phangan's average measured internet is also about four times faster.

An aside on Koh Samui

We found no Samui monthly figure on the same basket, so we leave it out rather than guess.
