How much does the Portugal D7 or D8 visa cost in total including fees?

There are two cost layers: fixed state fees, which are published, and preparation costs, which depend on your nationality and how much help you buy.

State fees you can count on

1. National (D type) visa application: 110 euros, the same for the D7 and the D8, charged per applicant at the consulate. Children under six, descendants joining under family reunification, Portuguese study scholarship holders and highly qualified researchers are exempt.
2. Administrative appeal against a refusal: 75 euros, except family reunification appeals.
3. AIMA residence permit: 247.30 euros paid at the counter or 185.60 euros paid online, under the fee table AIMA put in force on 1 March 2026. The amount that actually applies is the one printed on your DUC payment reference, so pay what it says, within ten working days of issue.
4. Later on, permanent residence costs 484.10 euros at the counter or 363.20 euros online, the nationality application is 250 euros, and the CIPLE A2 language exam is 95 euros in 2026.

The preparation costs nobody budgets for

Criminal record certificate in your country of residence, apostille, certified translation into Portuguese, private health or travel insurance covering the stay until you register with the SNS, passport photos, and the handling fee charged by the visa centre that processes applications in your country. If you use a lawyer or relocation agency, that is usually the largest single line.

Then there is the money you have to show rather than spend: an average of 3,680 euros a month over the last three months for the D8 in 2026, or 920 euros a month of passive income for the D7 main applicant, plus a bank balance around 11,040 euros for a single applicant. That is proof of means, not a fee, but it has to be sitting in an account when you apply.

Budget per person, not per household: the 110 euro fee and most document costs repeat for a spouse and for each child over six.
