Where do expats go to the doctor in Da Nang?
Da Nang's healthcare is good for everyday problems and thin for the serious ones. A GP visit, a dental clean, stitches, dengue tests, physiotherapy and most prescriptions are quick and cheap by Western standards. Complex surgery, cardiac cases and anything needing intensive care usually mean a transfer to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi or Bangkok, which is the main reason to hold insurance that covers evacuation.

Vietnam wide, a private GP visit runs USD 50 to 100 and a specialist USD 100 to 200. Vinmec's published procedure prices start around USD 52 for a dental clean.
Two things nobody tells you in advance
- Payment up front. Private hospitals here expect payment at the point of care unless your insurer bills them directly; without a guarantee letter, carry a card with headroom, especially for anything involving a bed or a procedure.
- Transfers. Serious cases are flown or driven out, and medical evacuation to Singapore or Bangkok runs USD 15,000 to 50,000 without cover. Nothing in Vietnamese law requires insurance on an e-visa, but that evacuation cost is the practical reason to hold a policy that includes it.
Pharmacies and small stuff
Pharmacity, Medicare and Guardian are the reputable chains; many medicines that need a prescription at home are sold over the counter. During the rainy season, dengue cases rise from September to December: repellent, screens and a blood test at the first fever are the routine.
Emergency numbers
Ambulance 115, police 113, fire 114. Private hospitals run their own ambulances and are usually faster than the public service; save Vinmec's number the day you arrive.
