Are hospitals in Vietnam good?

By DigiTao editorial.

What official travel advice says

The Government of Canada, updated on 22 June 2026, writes that "good health care is limited", that "the quality of care varies greatly throughout the country" and that facilities and supplies are limited outside Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Private clinics and hospitals are usually better equipped: services can be expensive, but they usually have qualified staff who speak English or French well. The UK Foreign Office adds that some medicines are hard to find and many are fake, and tells travellers to hold cover for full medical bills and an air ambulance. The public ambulance number is 115.

Private hospitals and accreditation

Vinmec, a private hospital group, says two of its hospitals hold JCI accreditation, an international standard for hospital quality and patient safety: Times City in Hanoi and Central Park in Ho Chi Minh City. Its Da Nang hospital belongs to the same group but is not one of the two. The UK Foreign Office keeps a list of medical providers in Vietnam where some staff speak English.

Hospitals in Da Nang

Da Nang is solid for routine care and thin for the serious cases. Prices are from Based Da Nang, updated on 8 July 2026.

ProviderConsultationWhat to expect
Family Medical PracticeUSD 86 to 110All doctors speak English
Vinmec Da NangAbout USD 47222 beds, opened September 2017, some English speaking doctors
Hoan My Da NangAbout USD 24 to 32Cheapest of the three, limited English

A night in hospital runs USD 30 to 150 depending on the provider. The same guide names the limits: there is no paediatric intensive care unit, so serious children's emergencies are evacuated to Ho Chi Minh City or Bangkok, and complex cardiac, neurological and cancer procedures are better handled in Ho Chi Minh City.

How much does health insurance cost for expats in Vietnam?

  1. A full international health plan: Pacific Prime, an insurance broker, reports an average individual premium in Vietnam of USD 4,547 a year in 2024, and USD 12,505 for a family. That is a broker's average from its own cost report, not a quote.
  2. Travel medical cover for nomads: SafetyWing's Essential plan lists USD 62.72 per four weeks for ages 18 to 39, with a USD 250,000 limit and evacuation up to USD 100,000. It pays for motor accidents only if you are properly licensed, which matters here: see whether your IDP is valid in Vietnam.

Whichever you choose, check that it pays for a transfer out of Da Nang. This page is general information, not medical advice.

Addresses and emergency numbers are in where expats go to the doctor in Da Nang and in our setting up in Vietnam guide.
