Is the internet in Portugal reliable enough for working US hours?

How fast is the connection, really

Median fixed broadband in Portugal runs at roughly 176 Mbps and median mobile at roughly 166 Mbps, among the fastest in Europe. Fibre coverage in Lisbon and Porto is close to universal in buildings built after the 1990s, and a fraction of that median speed is already enough for a stable video call. Where it actually breaks

The failure mode is not bandwidth, it is a single point of failure. Working US hours means your calls land in the Portuguese evening and night, when the building's electrician has gone home and the ISP's helpline queue is longest. A router that drops at 9pm Lisbon time can mean missing the one afternoon block your US team is awake for. Keep a 5G data plan on your phone as backup, and know your ISP's outage number before you need it, not during a call.

Which US coast is realistically workable

East Coast clients are the easier case, since their working day lands in your Portuguese afternoon and evening. West Coast clients are harder: a Pacific working day starts in the late afternoon in Lisbon and runs past midnight, which suits a few calls a week more than a full daily shift.
