How much does fibre internet cost per month in Portugal?

Portugal is cheap for what you get. Fibre passed about 95 percent of homes and premises by the latest count, and a gigabit line costs less than a coworking day pass per week.

Internet only

If you do not want TV, ask specifically for an internet only plan, which sales staff do not always offer first. Those run roughly 27 to 30 euros a month for 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps at MEO, NOS and Vodafone. Digi is the outlier: its gigabit fibre plan runs about 10 euros a month, with a three month tie-in instead of the usual 24, which makes it the most aggressive price in the market by a wide margin.

Prices move with promotions, so treat these as the shape of the market rather than a quote.

The costs beside the monthly price

1. Installation. Free with a 24 month contract, otherwise 60 to 100 euros in activation.
2. Lead time. Three to ten business days in cities: MEO and Vodafone three to seven, NOS five to ten, Digi seven to fourteen. The install visit takes 60 to 90 minutes and someone must be home.
3. Documents. NIF, a Portuguese address, Portuguese bank details for direct debit, and often a credit check.
4. Annual price updates. Providers adjust prices during the term, usually early in the year.

If fibre has not reached your address

Rural houses and some older buildings are still waiting. Digi sells Net Fixa 5G at 5 euros a month for addresses without fibre, and the mobile networks are strong enough that a 5G router is a workable primary connection for calls and video.
