Your leave-by date
Add your arrival date to see your leave-by date.
This is a calculation, not legal advice. The stamp in your passport and the immigration authority have the final word: confirm with the immigration authority before you rely on this date.
How it works
- Pick the country and how you entered. For the Schengen area, list every stay of the last 180 days; for Thailand and Vietnam, give the date stamped in your passport.
- The tool takes the rule in force on your arrival date. Thailand, Visa exemption: 60 days for arrivals up to 14 September 2026, 30 days from 15 September 2026.
- It counts the day you arrive and the day you leave as full days. Under Schengen it checks every rolling window, so days drop out as they get old; a per entry rule adds its days to your arrival, the arrival day being day one.
- An extension is never added to the date: it is applied for in person and granted at the officer's discretion. The result names it when one exists.
- It all runs in your browser: your dates are never sent to us or stored, and nothing is kept between visits.
The stay rules we count with
Each rule is dated and sourced. When a rule changes, we add a new dated rule and keep the old one, so an earlier arrival is still counted under the rule it came in on.

Leave By Check: frequently asked questions
Does the Schengen 90/180 rule count my entry and exit days?
Yes, both. The Schengen Borders Code treats the date of entry as the first day of stay and the date of exit as the last (EUR-Lex), and Leave By Check counts them the same way. If a trip lands within a day or two of the limit, run the same dates through the European Commission short stay calculator before you book. Worked examples: the Schengen 90/180 rule for Portugal.
Do days on a Portuguese residence visa or permit count against my 90 Schengen days?
Not in Portugal. A Portuguese national visa or residence permit is authorised residence, issued outside the short stay system (Vistos MNE), so those days do not use your Portuguese allowance. The 90 days in 180 still apply to your trips to the other Schengen states, so enter only those trips here. Related: the Schengen 90/180 rule for Portugal.
What should I do if the calculator says I would exceed 90 days?
Two honest options: shorten the trip so you leave on or before the date shown, or apply for a national visa at the Portuguese consulate covering your country of residence, which costs 110 euros (Vistos MNE) and takes months, not weeks. A hop to Morocco or the UK does not reset anything, because the 180 day window keeps rolling. See can I do a visa run from Portugal.
Does time in other Schengen countries count toward my Portugal days?
Yes. The allowance is 90 days in any 180 day period across the whole Schengen area, not per country (Your Europe). Three weeks in Spain and two in Italy come straight off the days left for Portugal, so add every Schengen trip from the last six months. Background: the Schengen 90/180 rule for Portugal.
Is anything I type into Leave By Check sent to a server?
No. The dates you enter stay in your browser and the count runs there. We store no passport number, no name and no travel history, and nothing is saved between visits, so keep your own record of past trips. Border officers check your entries and exits against the same 90 days in any 180 day period you just calculated.
Does Leave By Check count my Thailand stay from the arrival day or the day after?
From the arrival day. The day you land is day one, so a 30-day exemption that starts on 20 September 2026 ends on 19 October 2026: arrival plus 30 days minus one. The result shows each step of that calculation, with the rule and its source. The stamp in your passport always wins over any calculator. More on stamps, the arrival card and reports: arriving and staying legal in Thailand.
Does the Thailand leave-by date include the 30-day extension?
No, the date covers the stay granted on entry. The exemption allows one extension of up to 30 days per entry at a Thai immigration office (Royal Thai Embassy in London), filed on form TM.7 for 1,900 THB (Trat Immigration Office), and approval is not automatic. Once granted, an arrival on 20 September 2026 moves from 19 October to 18 November 2026. Costs and paperwork: extending the 30-day exemption.
What does Leave By Check show if I entered Thailand before 15 September 2026 with a 60-day stamp?
The 60-day result. The tool picks the rule in force on your arrival date, so any arrival up to 14 September 2026 uses the old 60-day exemption, and 15 September onward uses 30 days. That matches practice: travellers admitted before the change keep the stay granted on entry, as VisasNews reported. If your stamp shows another date, follow the stamp. Background: why your 60-day stamp still counts.
What happens if I stay in Thailand past the leave-by date?
The result shows how many days you are over. The tool does not price the fine: it is 500 THB per day, capped at 20,000 THB, a cap you reach at 40 days, paid before you leave, per the Samut Prakan Immigration Office. If you surrender voluntarily, an overstay of more than 90 days brings a one year re-entry ban. What a short overstay looks like at the airport: overstayed by three days in Thailand.
Can Leave By Check warn me before I reach 180 days in Thailand for tax residency?
No. The tool handles one entry at a time, while tax residency adds up every day you spend in Thailand across the calendar year. The Revenue Department defines a resident as someone present for periods aggregating more than 180 days in a tax year. Keep your own day log across every entry. How we count ours: 179 days, how we count our Thai tax year.
How does Leave By Check count the day I land in Vietnam?
The arrival day is day one. A 90-day e-visa used on 20 September 2026 therefore runs out on 18 December 2026: arrival plus 90 days minus one. The result shows each step so you can check it. Your e-visa also carries its own valid from and valid to dates, and those dates always win over any calculator.
Does Leave By Check cover the 45-day visa exemption as well as the 90-day e-visa?
Both. Pick the entry you arrived on and the tool applies the rule in force on your arrival date: 45 days under Resolution 44 for 12 countries, any purpose, until 14 March 2028; 45 days under Resolution 229 for 12 more, tourism only, until 14 August 2028; or the 90-day e-visa. Which list you are on: which countries get 45 days visa free in Vietnam.
Can I leave Vietnam and come straight back for a fresh 90 days?
Only with a new e-visa. The current one cannot be extended inside Vietnam, so apply on the official portal before you fly out, allowing three working days. For visa free travellers, Resolution 44 writes no waiting period between two exempt entries, but back to back entries draw questions at the counter. Read can I extend my e-visa without leaving.
What happens if my flight out of Vietnam is after my leave-by date?
The result tells you how many days you would be over. Vietnam fines by band, not per day, under Decree 282/2025 (Viet Nam News): VND 500,000 to 2 million under 16 days, VND 5 to 10 million from 16 to under 30 days, up to VND 40 million at a year or more. From 16 days, deportation is possible. What it costs in practice: Vietnam doubled its overstay fines.
Does Leave By Check warn me about the 183-day tax line in Vietnam?
No. The tool reads one entry at a time, while tax residence counts 183 days or more in a calendar year or in 12 consecutive months from your arrival (PwC). A rented home under a fixed-term lease can make you resident on its own, even with fewer days present. Keep your own day log. Start here: what we got wrong about the 183-day rule.
