Can I get a 60 day visa on arrival in Thailand?

By DigiTao editorial.

The question mixes two different things, and the mix-up is easy to make: until 14 September 2026, most Western passports did receive 60 days at the airport, without paying and without applying. That was the visa exemption, not a visa on arrival, and it now gives 30 days.

Is Thailand visa on arrival? What you get at the counter

How you enterWhoStayCost
Visa exemption60 countries and territories, including the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, France, Germany and India30 daysFree
Visa exemption, short tierMauritius and Seychelles15 daysFree
Visa on arrivalAzerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia15 days2,000 THB in cash
Tourist visa, applied for before travelApplicants at the Thai post for their country60 days per entry30 GBP in London

The first three rows come from the Tourism Authority of Thailand announcement of 1 September 2026, and the 15 days and the 2,000 THB from the Royal Thai Embassy in London. In 2024 the visa on arrival list still held 31 countries, India among them; VisasNews reports that Indian passport holders moved to the 30-day exemption on 15 September 2026.

What the visa on arrival asks for

The London embassy lists an application form handed out at the checkpoint, a photograph taken within the past six months, a passport valid for at least six months, a paid onward ticket within 15 days, and funds of 10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family. The fee is not refunded, and the stay cannot be extended except in case of illness.

If you landed before 15 September 2026

Your 60-day stamp stands. The date printed in your passport is the one that binds, as our post on why your 60-day stamp still counts explains with worked dates.

How to reach 60 days now

  1. Enter on the 30-day exemption and request one extension of up to 30 days at an immigration office, for 1,900 THB. Approval is at the officer's discretion. The detail is in how long is a visa free stay in Thailand.
  2. Apply for a single entry tourist visa on the official e-Visa portal before you travel: 60 days on arrival, and the same 30-day extension on top. See how do I get a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand.

Visa check tells you which row applies to your passport, and the Thailand visa options guide covers longer stays. Admission is always decided by the officer at the border, so check the page of the Thai embassy for your country before you book.
