How do I get a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand and what does it cost?

Since the visa exemption dropped to 30 days on 15 September 2026, the TR is the simplest way to get a full 60 days from a single arrival. For a two or three month stay it is now worth the application that few people used to bother with.

How the application runs

1. Create an account on thaievisa.go.th and choose the embassy or consulate that serves the country you apply from. That choice sets the fee in local currency.
2. Upload your passport, a photograph, your flights, your accommodation and a bank statement. ThaiLawOnline gives the funds guideline for a tourist visa as 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family.
3. Pay online. ThailandKnowledge reports that most posts decide in one to three business days.
4. Print the approval. The visa is electronic, but a printout saves arguments at check in.

What you get

In London the single entry TR is valid for three months from issue and gives up to 60 days from the day you enter. At a Thai immigration office you can then extend once by 30 days, for 1,900 THB on form TM.7, which makes 90 days in total on one application. Leaving Thailand ends a single entry visa, so a mid stay trip to Malaysia means a new visa or a visa exempt entry.

The six month version

The multiple entry tourist visa, the METV, is valid for six months and gives 60 days per entry, with as many entries as you like inside that window. London charges 150 GBP, and Emerhub puts it at around 5,000 THB elsewhere. It suits people who plan to hop to Vietnam or Malaysia and come back.
