Can a foreigner get a credit card in Thailand?

By DigiTao editorial.

A Thai credit card is a product for people on a Thai payroll. The figures below come from two guides we opened on 2 October 2026: Thailand Starter Kit, updated on 25 September 2026, and Wise's guide of 22 February 2026.

What the issuers ask for

  1. A work permit with at least six months left to run.
  2. Three months of salary slips, and often six months of bank statements.
  3. A minimum monthly income, set card by card and typically between 50,000 and 100,000 THB.
  4. Your passport, and usually a visit to a branch. Wise notes that online and in app applications are often closed to foreign applicants, while Thailand Starter Kit advises applying online where the issuer allows it.

Issuer and cardMinimum monthly incomeOther condition reported
Kasikorn Platinum50,000 THBOne year of employment
Kasikorn The Passion70,000 THB
KTC X Visa Signature50,000 THBTwo years of employment
UOB PRVI Miles50,000 THBFour months in the job, after probation
SCB CardX JCB Platinum and Ultra Platinum100,000 THB

Krungsri does not publish its conditions for foreigners and asks you to discuss eligibility at a branch, according to Wise. Annual fees run from 2,000 THB to more than 10,000 THB and are often waived above a spending threshold, according to Thailand Starter Kit.

Without a work permit

Thailand Starter Kit describes two routes. Some banks will issue a credit card against a guarantee deposit of 100,000 to 200,000 THB placed in a fixed term account. The cheaper one is the secured card, which it compares to a prepaid card: you deposit at least 30,000 THB and spend only what you deposited, with no income requirement. It names Bangkok Bank as offering one. You still need a Thai bank account to hold the deposit, and Kasikorn, for one, refuses tourist visas, visa exempt entries and the DTV, so this route is for retirees and other long stay visa holders rather than for visitors.

Do you need one

For most remote workers, no. Thailand Starter Kit notes that a card from home works almost anywhere cards are accepted in Thailand, and the costs are your issuer's foreign fee and the occasional merchant surcharge. A Thai card earns its place when you are paid in baht and want local instalment plans and promotions.

Conditions change card by card, so treat these figures as a starting point and confirm with the issuer before you apply. Our Thailand banking and money guide explains who gets a Thai account in the first place, and what documents do I need to open a Thai bank account as a foreigner lists the paperwork.
