Porto coworking after Porto i/o: where remote workers go now

Porto coworking still costs roughly 88 to 150 euros a month for a hot desk, with day passes from about 12 euros and hourly desks from about 2 euros, but Porto i/o, the space most lists still recommend first, has closed its doors as a physical space. On 26 September 2026 the porto.io domain redirected to a newsletter titled "One last sunset for Porto i/o", in which the team says it has handed over the keys of its Downtown building and decided, after ten years, "to sunset Porto i/o as a physical space" (Porto i/o farewell newsletter).

This page lists where Porto remote workers can work instead, what it costs according to dated public sources, and what the closure says about the city. If you run one of these spaces and a price has changed, write to us and we will correct it.

Is Porto i/o coworking still open?

No: treat Porto i/o as closed. The farewell newsletter confirms the Downtown building has been handed back and that the brand is ending as a physical space. It mentions that Porto i/o had also run spaces at Riverside, Seaside, Braga and Santa Catarina over the years, but it does not give a separate status for each one, so do not walk to any Porto i/o address without checking first.

The risk is real because the lists have not caught up. A Porto coworking ranking updated in July 2026 still placed three Porto i/o locations in its top 20: Riverside, Downtown and Seaside (Coworking Spaces, Top 20 coworking spaces in Porto, listed in our sources). A May 2024 round up quoted Porto i/o at 95 euros a month for access from 10 am to 6 pm, 150 euros for a fixed desk and 225 euros for a private office (Portugal.com). Those figures now describe a space you cannot book.

How much does coworking cost in Porto?

A monthly hot desk in Porto costs between about 88 and 250 euros, and most spaces sit between 88 and 150. The table below uses the most recent public price lists we could verify. The monthly figures come from a round up dated 6 May 2024, so use them as a starting point for a message to the space, not as a quote.

Two points stand out. First, the cheapest way to try Porto coworking is by the hour or by the day: Temporada at about 2 euros an hour and Work Wise at about 12 euros a day let you test a space without a contract. Second, the monthly price spread is narrow. Apart from Dot Work in Gaia, the difference between the cheapest and the most expensive monthly desk is about 60 euros, so location and hours matter more than price.

How much does a meeting room cost in Porto?

Bookable meeting rooms in Porto cost roughly 30 to 55 euros an hour. Wezoo listed these hourly rates in its July 2026 update:

1. Porto S. Bento, city centre: 30.75 euros an hour.
2. Avenida Meneres, Matosinhos: 31.54 euros an hour.
3. Lake Towers, Vila Nova de Gaia: 35.67 euros an hour.
4. Boavista: 44.23 euros an hour.
5. Oliva, Sao Joao da Madeira (outside the city): 54.56 euros an hour.

If you only need a room for a client call or a workshop once a month, an hourly room plus a day pass costs far less than a fixed desk with meeting credits.

Where did the Porto remote work community go?

The Porto remote community now meets mainly through online groups and recurring events, not around one anchor space. The Portugal Brief's guide to expat communities, dated 9 March 2026 and marked verified in September 2026, describes Porto as "a smaller, more settled community with more long-term residents" and points to Meetup and InterNations as the places where Porto groups organise (The Portugal Brief).

That matters for newcomers. A coworking space with a community manager introduces you to people in your first week. A feed does not notice that you arrived. If meeting people is part of why you want a desk, pick a space that runs its own events and ask about them before you pay for a month.

Why did Porto's anchor space close?

Porto i/o did not give a business reason. The newsletter frames the closure as the end of a ten year cycle: "Life is made of cycles. This is the beginning of a new one." Anything beyond that is interpretation, so here are the two public trends that shape the market around it.

1. Short stay nomad arrivals fell after the pandemic peak. Worktugal, citing Nomad List data, reported that estimated monthly nomad arrivals in Lisbon dropped from about 20,800 in October 2021 to about 3,000 in May 2023, an 86 percent fall, while warning that Nomad List only counts its own users (Worktugal, 11 July 2024). That is a Lisbon figure and a platform estimate, not a Porto census.
2. The tax pitch changed. The 2024 State Budget introduced IFICI, often called NHR 2.0, with effect from 1 January 2024 (Morais Leitao legal alert). The tax authority's IFICI page excludes anyone who benefits or has benefited from the old non habitual resident regime, and sets the qualifying professions by Portaria 352/2024/1 of 23 December 2024 (Portal das Financas, IFICI FAQ).

The legal route for remote workers is still open. The Portuguese foreign ministry's residency document list asks remote workers for an average monthly income over the last three months of at least four times the minimum monthly wage (MNE, residency visa documents), which comes to 3,680 euros a month in 2026 on a 920 euro minimum wage. Check your own case in Visa Check. People who clear that bar tend to sign longer leases and work from home part of the week, which is a harder customer for a space built on monthly memberships.

How should you choose a coworking space in Porto?

Start with day passes, then commit to a month only after you have worked in a space on a rainy weekday. Here is the order we suggest:

1. Check the space's own website or message it before you go. The lists, ours included, age quickly, and Porto i/o shows how long a closed space can stay in a top 20.
2. Buy two or three day passes in different areas. At 12 to 23 euros each, three days cost less than one month anywhere in the table.
3. Plan for rain. Porto gets about 1,255 mm of rain a year over roughly 110 rainy days, and December alone averages about 195 mm over 13 days (Climates to Travel, Porto). A home setup that depends on a sunny balcony will not last the winter, and that is when a desk earns its price.
