Is the Vietnam e-visa legit?
Vietnam issued more than 4 million e-visas in 2025 and approved nearly 2.5 million in the first half of 2026, and 83 international border gates accept them, according to the Vietnam News Agency. The document is genuine. The risk sits in the website you pay.
Which website is the official one?
The portal runs on two addresses: evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn. The Vietnam News Agency named those two domains as the Ministry of Public Security's official e-visa system on 26 July 2026, and Canada's travel advice points to evisa.gov.vn.
The older address, evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn, still opened when we checked it on 2 October 2026, and the UK Foreign Office still links to it. It now carries a notice saying that since 11 November 2024 the portal operates on the two new domains. All three end in .gov.vn, the suffix reserved for Vietnamese government sites.
How the fakes work
The Vietnam News Agency describes sites that copy the official portal, register misleading domain names or pay for online ads, and promise "instant visas", "urgent processing" or "guaranteed approval". The travel site vietnamtourism.com puts reseller prices at USD 75 to 150 for the single entry e-visa that costs USD 25 on the portal. A reseller files the same application for you at a markup. A fake takes the payment and your passport scan. Type the address yourself and leave the sponsored results alone.
What does the e-visa look like?
It is a PDF you print, not a sticker in your passport. Vietnam-visa.com, a visa agency, lists what the page must show legibly: your photo, full name, passport number, a visa code and the entry port. Check the name, passport number, dates and port against your passport before you fly.
To confirm it is real, open the e-visa search menu on the official portal and enter your registration code, email and date of birth. If the portal finds the file, the visa exists.
Does it need to be printed in colour?
The portal says only this: "please print E-visa to enter/exit Vietnam". It sets no colour rule. Vietnamtourism.com advises two colour copies, one for the airline and one for immigration, while the agency above says black and white is accepted. Print in colour if you can, and carry two copies.
The fees and the refund rule are in how much the Vietnam e-visa costs, the approval letter route in can you get a Vietnam visa at the airport, and the full procedure in our Vietnam visas guide for remote workers. Visa Check tells you whether your passport needs one at all.
