How long is the ferry from Koh Samui to Koh Tao?

An 11:30 departure from Bangrak changes boats and takes 2 hours 45 minutes.

The sources disagree on one point: Siam Tickets and Direct Ferries list the 08:00 and 12:30 catamarans from Maenam pier, not Bangrak. Lomprayah's own site names all three piers, so read the pier printed on your ticket.

Why the times differ

  1. The boat. The speedboat is the quickest at 1 hour 30 minutes; the catamaran takes up to 2 hours.
  2. The stop. Inside Samui notes that the Lomprayah catamaran calls at Thong Sala pier on Koh Phangan for 15 to 20 minutes. Stay on board unless Koh Phangan is your destination.
  3. The operator. Seatran Discovery is timed at 2 hours by Funky Turtle, a Koh Tao dive operator, and at 2.5 to 3 hours by Inside Samui.

How to get from Koh Samui to Koh Tao

Pick the pier before the boat: Maenam has the 14:30 speedboat, Bangrak the 15:30 and Nathon the last boat of the day at 16:00. Take a taxi to the pier, check in early, and keep your day bag with you, as the Koh Tao Tourism Association advises for any transfer.
